IOWA CENTRAL (Fort Dodge) WINS NJC.AA ALL-SPORTS TITLE
Iowa Central Community College has won the national all-sports championship among
NJCAA schools with scholarship programs for 2008-2009. It is the first title of its
kind for the Fort Dodge school.
With 158.5 points, Iowa Central outscored two-time former champion Monroe Community
College (NY) to win by nine points.
In the scoring system used by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic
Administrators (NATYCAA) to determine the champion, a school may use its five highest
finishes in national level tournaments or polls in both men’s and women’s sports
to compile a total score. Points are assigned to the place of finish beginning with
20 for a national championship, 19 for second and so on.
Iowa Central won national championships in wrestling and women’s cross country. Other
sports that added to Iowa Central’s winning total on the men’s side included swimming
(fifth nationally), indoor track and field (fifth), cross country (sixth), and football
(No. 8 in the final poll).
On the women’s side, in addition to the cross country title, Iowa Central accumulated
points for softball (fifth place tie), outdoor track and field (sixth), indoor track
and field (sixth), and swimming (eighth). |

Marty Dalton Wins the Canyonlands
Half Marathon! (from a email)
Marty (on Spring Break in Colorado), competed in and won the Canyonland's
Half Marathon in Moab, Utah this past Saturday, March 16th.
His chip time was 1:13:22.5.
A very strong head wind prevailed for 10 of the 13 miles and many believed that,
in the case of the front runners, the wind added 3 minutes to their times.
